Providence’s Wilbury Group Acquires Permanent Space

A new announcement by The Wilbury Theatre Group, an adventurous theatre company based in Providence, RI, details the move to a permanent home along the west side of the city. It highlights a major transition for a company with a growing reputation for staging bold works such as Spring Awakening and Dry Land. Established in 2010, the company would be transferring from a community arts center to a 6500 square foot garage on the cul-de-sac of 40 Sonoma Court.

Flanking alongside a riverside bike path and situated conveniently among the factory-vintage loft buildings of Rising Sun Mills, this would be a welcome enhancement for the diverse residents of Olneyville and to the Providence theatre community. It posits the Wilbury Group into an elevated status of acquiring permanency.

In a statement, Wilbury Group Board President Andrew Stigler says, "The large and dynamic space perfectly suits our needs and I'm confident audiences will be impressed with the moment they walk in the front door. 40 Sonoma is a real find."

The inaugural show for their new home is slated to be the Pinter drama, The Caretaker, beginning September 14. More details can be found here.
